- ⚠️ IMPORTANT ⚠️ Never power up your device until you have connected an antenna. You may permanently damage the radio chip.
- Flash most recent stable firmware to your device using the Meshtastic web installer here —⟩ https://flasher.meshtastic.org Use a compatible browser, such as Chrome or Edge. **Recommend full erase and install.
- Install the Meshtastic mobile app on your smartphone (Android, iOS)
- Connect to your device using your phone and the app via Bluetooth
- Set the region to 'US' (North America)
- Chose whether you want to provide phone location to mesh.
- Create a Long name and four character node ID Short name
- Do not toggle even if you are licensed amateur radio operator. Encryption with default key is legal.
- Send to device. Node will update and restart.
- Select ‘0’ LongFast
- Enable Uplink {See 'Additional Notes' below}
- Enable downlink (Disable if you don't want to populate with MQTT nodes)
- Position enabled if device has GPS
- Precise location. [Location privacy] (select how accurate your position info will be with the slider)
- Send to the device. Device may restart.
- Set Role [CLIENT] (recommended) - See https://wiki.mt.gt/software/howtos/roles
- Serial output — enabled if you want to connect to PC
- POSIX Time zone — leave blank if you would like to use UTC time or add your local time zone (see time zone information at the bottom)
- Enable or disable LED heartbeat.
- All other items leave at default
- Send to the device. Device may restart.

- Set up Wi-Fi connectivity here
- SSID — Your Wi-Fi network name
- PSK — Your Wi-Fi password
- ∆ Enable Ethernet if you want to connect via Wi-Fi with the App or on your PC in a browser. To connect you will need to be connected to the same network as your node
⚠️ If you don't enable this, you will not be able to connect to your device at all, as the Wi-Fi uses the Bluetooth radio. You may need to perform a factory reset on the device or flash it again to connect.

If you enable uplink/downlink using MQTT you will be broadcasting and receiving the LongFast public channel to/from all MQTT linked devices.
If you have a very active public LongFast channel you should not enable uplink or downlink.
